Getting Ready for a Classic Car Show

They get up early, taking to the road to show off their rides, engines revved up, waiting for a turn to move into the allotted space, the neighborhood park, or an empty parking lot. They pull out their tools for the car show trade, chamois cloths, fine bristle brushes, and special cleaners to prepare the car for the car show. Like a dance they have done before, the car sparkles in the morning sunlight.

It is a party, greeting old friends and car club members as they collect their bags full of car show treats, car show advertisements, and this year's tee shirt. Some shows serve breakfast and have raffles or toy drives.

Others line the city streets so vendors can enjoy the car show. The true homage is to the ride, roadsters, Fords, mopars, and cruisin' classics; no matter the theme, the car rules from dropped, chopped, cropped, paneled, pinstriped, rusted, burnished, low and slow, all showcasing history.

Shooting Digital

There are a lot of different car shows. Professional venues, street shows, park shows, car runs, poker runs, exotic, pre 70’, mopars, fabulous fords, roadsters, lowriders, trucks, vans, kustom.

Shooting a classic car show is an adventure. When we first started The Ranchero and the Blue Q it was just about taking photos of cars for the fun of it. Taking photographs at car shows is not easy especially because car shows come with a lot of challenges, so here are a few things we have learned about shooting a car show from a truly amateur point of view.
